His ability to justify behaviour is legendary, specially since I remember that he told john Kerry to run on an anti gay marriage platform to reduce support for George bush. I hate his finger wagging
Veto-proof majority for a ban on open service? Interesting memory, but take a look at the roll call for the House of Representatives's vote on a Duncan Hunter amendment to do exactly that:

Not even a *simple majority.*
As far as Charles Robb being one of the most conservative Democratic Senators, he certainly wasn't regarding LGBT rights in general, as he supported the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and was one of 14 senators who opposed the DOMA.
Alex Nicholson is the Executive Director and founder of Servicemembers United. He served as a multi-lingual human intelligence collector in the U.S. Army, but was honorably discharged from the military early (just 6 months after 9/11) pursuant to the arbitrary and capricious nature of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law. Alex has turned the misfortune of his experience with DADT into targeted, aggressive, and successful advocacy for the repeal of the law that forced him from the Army early and caused the military to lose a highly skilled and talented soldier during its greatest hour of need. He has appeared on CNN, on the cover of 'The Advocate' magazine, and throughout countless other media stories and articles on the DADT issue both as a 'victim' of the policy and as a pro-active and innovative national leader in the movement to repeal it.
